Creating a boot disk with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

I had an ISO image of OS X 10.8 to be transferred to a flash drive. For reasons unknown, DiskMaker X refuses to accept ISO source files and would unceremoniously exit without offering further assistance.

This can be solved with Disk Utility. Simply drop the ISO image onto the left panel, right-click to select 'Convert "InstallESD.iso"'. The resulting dmg file may then be used as a source.

The flash drive should have a minimum capacity of 8 GB and be formatted with GUID Partition Table. When restoring the image, Disk Utility will request to scan the source file once more. Hence, administrative rights have to be provided a second time.

Approximately 40 minutes later, the recovery medium should be ready with the label 'Mac OS X Install ESD'.
